Trainer Kelly Schweida believes Group One-winning jockey Damian Browne holds the key to a return to winning form for classy three-year-old Miss Cover Girl.
Miss Cover Girl will be having her first start past 1200m in the Commercial Kitchen Co Handicap (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Schweida has been using claiming apprentices Cassie Schmidt and James Orman on Miss Cover Girl who has been giving away big starts in her two runs after a spell.
Miss Cover Girl came from last to finish third at Doomben on October 11 and then again ran on from last to be fourth in a similar race three weeks ago.
The filly was unbeaten at her previous four starts as a two-year-old.
Schweida elected to go with Browne as he feels the experienced jockey may be able to get her into a better racing position.
"They have been running very fast final sectionals in these three-year-old races and it has been impossible for her to win from way back," Schweida said.
"It is also her first try at 1400 metres and I will be interested in an experienced rider like Damian's opinion of her ability to get even a bit further."
Meanwhile, Schweida believes What About Me can improve sharply.
What About Me was a Doomben winner two starts ago and Schweida expects him to return to that form in the Garrards Horse and Hound Handicap (1800m).
"My daughter Jodie owns him and there is $41,600 up for grabs so he will want to go a bit better or I am in trouble."
"But seriously, he over-raced and took off last start in the lead. He appeared to get his tongue over the bit so there were excuses."
Wyong trainer Alan Denham will chase a prize money bonus with promising galloper Furbish against Miss Cover Girl.
Furbish, who won first up at Scone last week, raced in Brisbane during the winter where he won twice.
