The education of Paceman is still incomplete but the colt has shown enough on his Rosehill debut to fuel dreams of the Golden Slipper.
Paceman was sent out the $1.35 favourite on Saturday, due to his 6-3/4 length barrier trial win last month.
Ridden by Josh Parr, Paceman was back in the five-horse field early in the 2YO Plate (1100m) but stamped his authority over the leader Right Of Way ($10) in the straight to beat the filly by a length.
Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, the colt is owned by his breeders Peter and Wendy Moran who raced his sire, Group One winner Duporth and his dam Snaps.
"It's good to get him out there and get him to the races. He's a horse we've had a big opinion of for a long time," Peter Snowden said.
"I will need to talk to Peter and Wendy about where to go next.
"I'm thinking a bit towards running him again to get his prize money up.
"If he can win two races that's $90,000 already towards a Slipper start.
"It makes a difference. It's a better feeling going to the autumn at your own pace than trying to catch up.
"He's been a very, very precocious horse. He's got a lot to learn but there's certainly something there to work with."
The $3.5 million Golden Slipper is on March 21.
