A minor setback will delay the return of Group One winner Nechita who has been ruled out of the major Melbourne sprints early next year.
Trainer John Thompson said the filly had to have a bone chip removed from a knee following her brilliant Coolmore Stud Stakes victory at Flemington on Derby Day.
"She pulled up a little scratchy after the Coolmore and was found to have a tiny chip in one knee which had to be taken out," Thompson told Racing Victoria.
"It's a simple procedure which won't have too much effect long-term but does mean she needs an extra break, which puts her out of Victoria's autumn.
"But she may make the tail-end of Sydney or Queensland."
Nechita has won three of her four starts with her only defeat coming when she was tested beyond 1200m for the first time in the Golden Rose (1400m).
Thompson said her long-term goal would be the Patinack Farm Classic at Flemington next spring.
