Channel Nine to broadcast Inter Dominion

Wednesday 12 December 2012, 3:37pm

The major event in Australasian harness racing will be shown live on free-to-air television for the first time in more than a quarter of a century.

The 2013 Inter Dominion Grand Final will be broadcast on Channel Nine on March 3 next year, along with the Chariots of Fire in an hour-long telecast.

To be jointly hosted by the NSW Harness Racing Club and Harness Racing NSW, the Inter Dominion was last shown on mainstream television in 1986.

John Dumesny, chief executive of HRNSW, said the result was a coup for the industry.

"The acceptance of the Grand Final as being worthy of telecast by Channel Nine is truly rewarding of the efforts we have placed on reinvigorating the Inter Dominion," Dumesny said.

"It is a privilege to be telecast following the coverage of cricket and before the commencement of the National Rugby League, the two leading sports in Australia, by the highest-rating Channel Nine."

Sydney will host the Inter Dominion at Menangle Park for the next three years with the Grand Final locked in for the first Sunday in March.
