The thrill of trainer Jason Attard's first city win at Canterbury on Wednesday held extra significance because it was delivered by a horse close to his heart.

Attard, 25, has been training for two years and prepares a team of eight at Hawkesbury, including Wednesday's breakthrough winner Reiby Regina.

He also works as manager of Reibycroft Stud where Reiby Regina was bred.

Reiby Regina claimed the fourth win of her career but first in town when she defeated Caesar's Princess by a half head in the 2GB Handicap (1550m).

"I delivered her as a foal. I broke her in as a yearling. I've raced her as a two and three-year-old and made it to town. So it's the whole journey," Attard said.

"She's won four races for me now and this is very, very exciting."

Reiby Regina brought up a winning double for jockey Tommy Berry who had earlier won on the Joe Pride-trained Strada's Diamond.

The meeting also provided premier Melbourne trainer Peter Moody with another winner in Sydney but the victory of Soros in the Pure Romance Handicap (1550m) didn't come as easily as jockey Josh Parr had hoped.

Soros was sluggish away and trailed the field to the home turn before powering home out wide to win in the last stride.

"I thought he would be able to travel midfield and show a good turn of foot and pick them up easily," Parr said.

"Instead I was really at him early to get into the race.

"The leaders got a good kick on me and I had to get down to business.

"I've got a lot of time for him but I thought he would have beaten them a lot more convincingly than that."

Soros had been freshened-up by Moody after failing over 2000m at his most recent outing in Saturday company.

His victory was Moody's eighth city winner in NSW this season.

Sydney stable representative Claire Cunningham was relieved to see the four-year-old gelding chase down Angelican who had skipped clear in the straight.

"I was nearly ready to cry," Cunningham said.

"I didn't think he was going to put in at all today.

"He walked out of the barriers but thankfully there was good tempo on and once Josh put a couple around his hindquarters he kicked strongly and has done well to win."
