Leading Magic Millions contender Calcatta has been confirmed as a starter in the vital lead-up at Wyong on Thursday.
The $200,000 Magic Millions Classic (1100m) has attracted 23 entries including Saturday's Rosehill winner Regimental Pride and the Robert Smerdon-trained filly Calcatta, second favourite for the $2 million showpiece on January 12 at the Gold Cost.
Smerdon said Calcatta, the winner of her only start at Moonee Valley on November 20, would leave Melbourne on Monday and travel by road to Wyong on the NSW Central Coast.
Dwayne Dunn, who rode Calcatta to her Moonee Valley win, will also make the trip to Wyong.
Smerdon said he had been working the filly in the right-handed direction and didn't expect it to pose a problem.
"The race at Wyong is perfectly placed as a lead-in to the Gold Coast," Smerdon said.
"She will have three weeks to get over it and to continue to adapt to the reverse way of going.
"Having said that she is a virtually bomb-proof filly.
"I have been working her the reverse way of going down here and she has not put a foot wrong.
"She has come ahead well following her win at Moonee Valley."
Fellow trainer David Payne said Regimental Pride had come through his Rosehill win in good condition and plans were to run the colt at Wyong.
"He only had to walk to the track so it was like a gallop for him," Payne said.
"It's the float trip that takes it out of them.
"At the moment he will back up at Wyong."
The Rick Hore-Lacy-trained Clevadude has gone to the top of TAB's market for the Magic Millions following his impressive debut win at Cranbourne on Saturday evening.
He was at $10 on Sunday with Calcatta a $12 chance and Regimental Pride at $26,
Clevadude will have his lead-up to the Gold Coast race on DEcember 29 at Moonee Valley.
