Victorian jumps racing schedule announced

Tuesday 18 December 2012, 5:15pm

The 2013 Victorian jumps racing will kick off at a Warrnambool meeting in early March.

Racing Victoria released a calendar for hurdle and steeplechase racing next year aimed at consolidating the major programming changes made before the 2012 season.

From Warrnambool on March 4 until Coleraine on September 29, $3.175 million in stakes will be distributed in 70 jumps races.

There will be 44 hurdles and 26 steeplechases.

An earlier start to the jumps season will allow horses enough time to prepare for the Oakbank carnival at Easter.

Warrnambool's Grand Annual Steeplechase and the Grand National Steeplechase, to be run at Sportingbet Park Sandown on July 28, remain Victoria's richest jumps races at $250,000.

"The 2013 jumps racing program consolidates the major changes made prior to the 2012 season and again provides an incentive for investment in the sport by existing and future owners," RV chief executive Bernard Saundry said.

Ten Victorian tracks will host jumps races with Werribee replacing Moe which is under reconstruction.
