Saimee Jumaat outed for 18 months

Wednesday 19 December 2012, 6:05pm

Nine time Singapore champion jockey Saimee Jumaat has been disqualified for 18 months and fined $50,000 for his handling of a horse at Kranji earlier this month.

Saimee was found guilty of failing to take all reasonable measures to obtain the best possible placing aboard Profound on December 7.

He has lodged an appeal against the ban.

In August 2009 Saimee rode seven winners on one day at Kranji and has also ridden in many other countries.

But in recent years his star has waned with Brazilian rider Jo Moreira, winner of the past three Singapore championships, replacing him as the crowd favourite.
