Good Ba Ba set for Australian debut

Friday 28 December 2012, 4:59pm

Hong Kong's former Horse of the Year Good Ba Ba makes his keenly-anticipated Australian debut in the Group Three Standish Handicap at Flemington on Tuesday.

The 11-year-old who won three successive Hong Kong Miles, the most recent in 2009, joined the Caulfield stable of Rick Hore-Lacy in September.

Hore-Lacy has prepared him for his comeback with two barrier trials and plenty of slow work.

In the first Good Ba Ba scored by five lengths at Cranbourne and has since finished second in a Pakenham trial.

The son of Lear Fan will be having his 47th start in the Standish and his first since April last year.

Good Ba Ba is giving weight to each of his 15 rivals, including the defending titleholder Catapulted whose trainer Mark Kavanagh is looking to complete Melbourne's summer sprint double following the win of Undeniably in Wednesday's Christmas Stakes.

Last-start Caulfield winner Outlandish Lad, recent Flemington winners Adamantium and British General and classy mare Bonnie Mac are among the other chances.

In Flemington's other New Year's Day feature, the Listed Bagot Handicap (2800m), the American import Unusual Suspect will be attempting to add to his Werribee Cup win of earlier this month.

A runner in the past two Melbourne Cups, the Mick Kent-trained stayer is joined by stablemate You Think So, who won at Flemington last Saturday.
