Not all European imports are true stayers as Chris Waller has found with Moriarty who drops back to 2000 metres in an attempt to recapture winning form in the Tattersalls Cup.
The gelding's past two starts have produced a third in the ATC Cup (2200m) and fourth in the Summer Cup (2400m).
Waller will also put blinkers on Moriarty to sharpen him up for Tuesday's Rosehill feature which will be his summer swan song.
"I concede he doesn't stay," Waller said.
"I think 2000 metres is his best distance and the blinkers go on to help him concentrate.
"I'm happy with him but much depends on if he's still got a run in him after a long campaign.
"And it's a good field with a spill-over from the Villiers which will be a test."
In the early part of his campaign, Moriarty put three wins together from 1550 to 1800 metres then ran two seconds before his foray into stakes company.
Topping the weights for the Tattersalls Cup is Monton with 59kg. He comes into the race after finishing out of the placings in his attempted defence of the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) and he steps up to 2000 metres for the first time.
Darci Be Good, a close-up third in the Villiers behind All Legal and Alma's Fury, is also in the Cup field.
Alma's Fury franked the Villiers form with victory in the Bernborough Handicap (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Highly Recommended, who finished sixth 1-1/2 lengths from the winner in the Villiers, is TAB's early favourite at $4 for the Tattersalls Cup ahead of Darci Be Good ($4.80) and Monton ($5.50) with Moriarty an $11 chance.
Other Villiers runners in the field are Shadows In The Sun, Kinnersley, Racing Heart and Shout Out Loud.
