Gai Waterhouse's Magic Millions hopes have taken a hit over the past couple of weeks but she is ever confident of being a presence at the Gold Coast.

Driefontein, the winner on protest over stablemate No Looking Back in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic for two-year-olds in January, was beaten in her Wyong lead-up race to the Guineas.

Certitude finished fourth behind the Clarry Conners-trained Assail at Wyong while stablemate Aussies Love Sport, heavily backed to win the Magic Millions Classic, and Sweet Idea finished second in their respective races at Canterbury and Doomben on Saturday.

"We're going there with good chances," Waterhouse said.

Aussies Love Sport may not have enough prize money to gain a start on January 12 with the trainer relying on attrition to get him in.

The $1 million Guineas (1400m) has opened up with cracks appearing in the favourite Sizzling, beaten by Lucky Hussler in the Vo Rogue at Doomben.

Waterhouse is maintaining her faith in second favourite Driefontein and hasn't given up on No Looking Back taking her place.

No Looking Back hasn't raced since finishing unplaced in the Golden Slipper in April and runs against older horses in Tuesday's Listed Carrington Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill.

"If she ran well then I would take her to the Magic Millions," Waterhouse said.

"I think she is very poorly weighted in the Carrington against the older horses.

"But it is the right distance and it is a black type race."

Weights for the Carrington have been raised 1.5kg with Skytrain (58kg) and Zaratone (56.5kg) the only horses above the 55.5kg limit.

Assail has been joined at the head of markets at $3.50 for the Magic Millions Classic by Clevadude who made it two from two with victory at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Missy Longstocking, the winner over Sweet Idea of the B J McLachlan at Doomben, is next at $12 while Aussies Love Sport has been eased to $26.

Aussies Love Sport had been backed from $151 to $9 before his second to Dothraki at Canterbury.
