Midweek winner to winter carnival contender.
That's the transition Magic In Motion can make, according to trainer Robert Heathcote.
"I've always had a big opinion of this filly even when she was running all those second placings but I think she can be a carnival player in the winter," Heathcote said.
"With a bit of luck in running or the penny dropping a bit earlier I think she could easily have racked up three or four wins.
"You can look at a horse with a string of placings next to their name and say they're a non-winner but in every race she was hitting the line hard."
Magic In Motion will be ridden by Jeff Lloyd at Eagle Farm on Saturday in the Coca-Cola Amatil Handicap (1800m) following her impressive win at the same track on December 19.
"What impressed me about her win last start was the way she overcame a scrimmage at the 200 metres and went `bang' which only good horses can do," he said.
Heathcote sees similarities between Magic In Motion and Fillydelphia, his black-type competitive mare.
"Fillydelphia was never a robust filly but she was long and took awhile to fill out and thicken and I think this filly is in the same vein," he said.
Heathcote could be in for a big day at Eagle Farm where Magic In Motion's stablemates Volkhere and She's A Dancia also have storng claims.
The trainer believes Volkhere is ready for the step up to Saturday grade after a confidence-boosting win on Boxing Day.
"I've always had a nice opinion of him and he's ready to go to the next level," he said.
"After he won on Doomben Cup day he suffered a minor setback with a soft-tissue injury in one of his legs and he just needed that confidence boost which he had last start.
"I liked the way he put them to bed the other day. When he just cruised around them at the 600 (metres) I put down my glasses and said `it's all over'."
Heathcote is confident She's A Danica can measure up in the Sirromet Love Sparkling Handicap (1000m).
"Experience has taught me that any horse that can win at their first start has got above-average ability," he said.
