Maurus ready for Group One assignment

Wednesday 30 September 2015, 7:05am

Trainer David Vandyke is chasing his first Group One win in the Metropolitan, a race that has proved frustrating in recent years.

The Vandyke-trained Lamasery, finished third in 2011 and fifth in 2012 while Prince Cheri was the unplaced favourite two years ago.

Maurus has drawn a middle gate at Randwick on Saturday and the six-year-old is a $15 chance with Godolphin's Magic Hurricane holding favouritism at $4.

Just a month ago, a bout of colic looked to have ruled Maurus out of spring racing but he made a quick recovery to put his campaign back on track.

Chris Waller will have five runners in the staying feature and three in the Epsom Handicap headed by the favourite Winx.
