James McDonald had a red-letter day at Randwick on Saturday, but his five-winner haul was soured by a careless riding suspension.
Despite mounting a spirited defence, the top jockey will miss Caulfield Guineas day after he was outed for six meetings over his ride on Gimcrack Stakes winner Calliope.
"Congratulations on a superb effort James. The rest of the news here isn't as good for you," chief stewards Ray Murrihy told him.
Stewards found the Godolphin rider guilty of directing his mount out just after the home turn when not clear of Christian Reith on Alluvion.
McDonald will ride at Flemington on Sunday, when his mounts include Hartnell in the Group One Turnbull Stakes, and at Warwick Farm on Monday before beginning the penalty.
He will be back for Caulfield Cup day in Melbourne when he is likely to ride either Complacent or Hauraki for Godolphin.
Stewards have adjourned an inquiry into an incident on the home turn in the Epsom Handicap when Hugh Bowman aboard eventual winner Winx is alleged to have lifted his left elbow and made contact with Blake Shinn on Kirramosa.
Chief steward Ray Murrihy said his panel wanted to examine enhanced images of the contact before taking the matter any further.
"It is a nasty incident. We want to give it due consideration," Murrihy said.
The inquiry is likely to resume at Warwick Farm on Monday.
