Weekend winners receive Cups penalties

Monday 5 October 2015, 1:17pm

Magic Hurricane and Let's Make Adeal have been re-handicapped for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups following their respective wins on the weekend.

Magic Hurricane received a 2.5kg penalty after scoring his maiden Group One win in The Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday while Let's Make Adeal received a 0.5kg penalty for her win in The Bart Cummings at Flemington on Sunday.

The John O'Shea-trained Magic Hurricane will now carry 52.5kg in both races with Let's Make Adeal on 50.5kg.

The half kilo penalty for Let's Make Adeal is the same handed out to previous winners of the Bart Cummings - Who Shot Thebarman (2014), Araldo (2013) and Tanby (2012).

Let's Make Adeal's victory secured her a start in the Melbourne Cup while she is equal 40th in the ballot order for the Caulfield Cup.

Her grand dam Let's Elope won both races in 1991 and the Nigel Blackiston-trained Let's Make Adeal had failed in the past two season to make the Melbourne Cup field.

Magic Hurricane is equal 29th for the Caulfield Cup and 34th for the Melbourne Cup.

Escado escaped a Melbourne Cup penalty for his win in the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley on Friday night and remains on 51kg.

He is 48th in the ballot order.
