Badawiya set to back up in 1000 Guineas

Monday 5 October 2015, 4:29pm

Impressive Edward Manifold Stakes winner Badawiya will be an acceptor for the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield.

Trainer Mick Price said the three-year-old daughter of Al Mahar had pulled up in good order following her impressive Group Two win at Flemington on Sunday.

Price said he would most likely take up the challenge with Badawiya off just a six-day break between races.

Badawiya was promoted to the second line of betting for Saturday's Group One Thousand Guineas at $5 alongside Miss Gunpowder following her two length win over Sacred Eye.

Pasadena Girl and Stay With Me are equal $4.40 favourites.

Price said he had a good look over Badawiya on Monday morning and was happy with how she had recovered.

"She was very good and I know the Thousand Guineas is a different kettle of fish," Price told Melbourne Radio station RSN.

"It's a good sign to see them sprint at the end of 1600 (metres) like that."

A lightly framed filly, Badawiya will require little work in the lead-up to Saturday's race.

"She'll have a little prance around all week and probably front up on Saturday," Price said.

Craig Newitt will ride Badawiya with her Edward Manifold jockey to miss the Caulfield meeting through suspension.

The final field with barriers will be announced on Tuesday.
