Boss hoping for better luck in Toorak Hcp

Wednesday 7 October 2015, 3:26pm

Glen Boss doesn't lack anything in confidence and heads into the Group One meeting at Caulfield on Saturday with a solid book of rides.

He partners Kermadec, the $2.90 favourite in the Caulfield Stakes and has picked up the mount on Ready For Victory, the second favourite in the Caulfield Guineas.

While those two gallopers have excellent chances, Boss is exuding confidence with Lucky Hussler, his mount in the Toorak Handicap.

Lucky Hussler, the topweight with 58kg, shares favouritism at $5.50 with Disposition, a last-start narrow second in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

The Darren Weir-trained Lucky Hussler contested the same race, finishing sixth behind stablemate Stratum Star in a run Boss claims luck went against the gelding.

Lucky Hussler found trouble 200m after the start that resulted in Damien Oliver receiving an eight-meeting suspension.

A winner of the Group One William Reid Stakes in the autumn, Lucky Hussler will be lining up for his third start this campaign.

Boss has been aboard the gelding in both starts and said the six-year-old was right on song for the rise to 1600m on Saturday.

"He's flying this prep," Boss said.

"His first-up run down the straight was terrific when well above himself in condition and he probably should have won his last start.

"He got put out of the race early and put me a couple of pairs back further than I wanted and that was basically my race.

"Third-up he's going to be right for the mile and he's probably one of my best winning chances on the day."

Boss said Lucky Hussler didn't get the chance show off his good turn of foot at his last start.

Lucky Hussler has drawn barrier four in the 18-horse field which has already been reduced by one after the scratching of Amicus.

Besides the good draw, Boss said the weights on Saturday pointed to his mount turning the tables.

"He meets the winner two-and-a-half kilos better and probably should have beaten him last time," Boss said.

"He's better than Disposition and meets him better at the weights also.
