Newitt, 3YO Super One renew acquaintances

Wednesday 7 October 2015, 3:37pm

Craig Newitt has been reunited with unbeaten Singapore three-year-old Super One in a gallop at Werribee.

Newitt rode the Michael Freedman-trained sprinter to three wins during a six-month stay in Singapore.

Super One will make his Australian debut in the Apache Cat Classic over 1000m at Cranbourne on Sunday with Newitt aboard in preparation for the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on October 31.

The son of I Am Invincible arrived in Australia on September 26 and is due to complete his quarantine stay at Werribee on Saturday.

He will be transferred to Flemington after doing some light work that morning.

Newitt said Super One felt bigger and stronger than when in Singapore.

"He feels as good as he did back in Singapore," Newitt said.

"He's bright, he's well, he's a lot stronger and his work was good.

"He had a bit of a blow after he galloped on Sunday morning and this morning he ran 22 (seconds for 400 metres) and a bit of change and wouldn't have blown a candle out.

"He's improving and he's not far away."

Under Newitt, Super One scored on debut and graduated to win Singapore's biggest two-year-old race, the Golden Horseshoe over 1200m in May, at his third start.

He hasn't raced since winning the Juvenile Championship at the end of July with Corey Brown in the saddle.
