Jim Byrne's defence of his Brisbane premiership has hit another early bump with a careless riding suspension.
Byrne will begin his nine meeting suspension after he rides the Tony Gollan-trained Fontelina and Secret Saga in Sydney on Saturday.
He was an easy winner of the 2014-15 Brisbane metropolitan premiership but is well adrift of the leaders early this season.
He has ridden seven metropolitan winners and is 16 behind apprentice James Orman.
Byrne had a late start to the season because he took holidays in August and missed two meetings after being injured in a fall at Ipswich earlier this month.
Gold Coast stewards found Byrne guilty of causing interference during his his winning ride on Wednesday.
He will be able to resume riding after October 26.
