Singo's Dawnie just Perfect for VRC Oaks

Saturday 17 October 2015, 3:35pm

The old firm of John Singleton, Clarry Connors and Jim Cassidy have another Oaks contender after the win of Dawnie Perfect at Caulfield.

The filly is on target to follow the win of Dear Demi which scored for the trio in the 2012 VRC Oaks at Flemington.

Dawnie Perfect showed she'll have no problem with the 2500m of the Oaks after covering ground in the Ethereal Stakes (2000m) on Saturday.

Sent out a $26 chance, Dawnie Perfect scored a three-quarter length win from Honesta ($3.50) with the favourite Ambience ($2.70) a length away third.

Dawnie Perfect is from another Connors-trained and Singleton-owned mare Zagalia which won the 2003 Queensland Oaks.

The filly broke her maiden status with her Ethereal Stakes win and Cassidy said the daughter of Big Brown had been racing in Sydney and was worth bringing to Melbourne for a spring campaign.

"She was going well enough to bring down and have a throw at the stumps," Cassidy said.

"It was D-day but we know that whatever she did she will improve on.

"She's on an Oaks target and it was nice to win one for Singo and Clarry and get the old team back together."

With Connors remaining in Sydney for the Randwick meeting, son Marc was representing the stable and said the filly was likely to head to the Wakeful Stakes in the lead-up to the Oaks on November 5.
