Cox Plate field set to be announced

Tuesday 20 October 2015, 3:29am

A capacity field featuring local and overseas stars is expected when the final line-up for the $3 million Cox Plate is announced.

The Moonee Valley Racing Club will host a trackwork session on Tuesday morning from 6.30am featuring several Cox Plate-bound horses, as well as a host of others nominated to race on Manikato Stakes night on Friday or Cox Plate day the following day.

The final field for Saturday's weight-for-age Cox Plate will be announced after 8.30am.

The maximum number of runners in Australia's weight-for-age championship is 14. Emergencies can be declared with the Moonee Valley Racing Club able to use its discretion to select the field.

The Cleaner and Criterion have ballot exemptions while international runners Highland Reel, Arod and Gailo Chop have been invited to run in the race.

Leading Group One trainer Chris Waller is expected to have three runners - Kermadec, Winx and Preferment.

Godolphin trainer John O'Shea has Hartnell, Contributer and Complacent in the Cox Plate mix.

It is anticipated that there will be at least 15 acceptors.
