The highly fancied Vanbrugh is out of the Victoria Derby with trainer Chris Waller deciding to concentrate on autumn racing with the colt.
Waller said he wanted to do the best thing for Vanbrugh's career and his future at stud.
"It was a tough decision to make," a stable statement said.
"However when taking into account the longevity of Vanbrugh's career as a colt and future stallion prospect, we believe that there are opportunities to further stamp himself as a superior colt in the autumn in races such as the Randwick/Australian Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and Doncaster Handicap.
"He will be sent to spell on Monday and will take no further part in the spring."
The winner of the Spring Champion Stakes, Vanbrugh had been the second favourite behind Tarzino for next Saturday's Classic at Flemington which Waller won last year with Preferment.
