Veteran Jeff Lloyd on winning streak

Sunday 25 October 2015, 4:13pm

Veteran Jeff Lloyd's desire for his children see him ride at his best has spurred him to a share of the lead in the Brisbane jockeys premiership with apprentice James Orman.

Lloyd rode a double at Ipswich on Wednesday and made it six metropolitan winners for the week with a quartet at Doomben on Saturday.

The 54-year-old former South African has ridden about 5000 winners in seven countries but his career nearly came to a halt three years ago when he suffered a stroke and doctors advised him to retire.

However, the father of three children aged 12 to 17 was able to make a full recovery and Lloyd has been in great form since.

"My best efforts were to ride seven winners in a day twice in South Africa," Lloyd said.

"I rode four winners in Sydney when I rode there about seven years ago."

"I had a year off after the medical problem in 2012 but I wanted to retire on my own terms.

"I wanted my kids to see me ride at my best so I made a comeback."
