Emirates Stakes goal for Arod

Sunday 25 October 2015, 4:32pm

English Cox Plate invitee Arod is likely to press ahead with his Australian campaign despite his disappointing performance at Moonee Valley.

The Peter Chapple-Hyam trained Arod finished a tiring 11th, 14 lengths behind the winner Winx in Australia's weight-for-age championship on Saturday.

Jockey Craig Williams had a discussion with David Redvers, racing manager for Sheikh Fahad al Thani of Qatar Racing, and said it was likely the son of Teofilo would contest the Group One Emirates Stakes on the final day of the four-day Melbourne Cup carnival at Flemington.

Williams said Arod had a good blow after the Cox Plate which was the five-year-old's first run since he finished second to Solow in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood in July.

"I had a concern that he was a bit distressed after the race," Williams said.

"I spoke to David Redvers last night and felt that the way the race was run this year, with the competition, it might not have been the most suitable race.

"The aim will be, all going well, that he will run in the Emirates.

"It would be great to see him at Flemington on a bigger, flatter track."

Williams said with the Cox Plate run under the belt Arod would strip fitter, adding it was disappointing the five-year-old was not seen at his best.

He said although after racing a little keenly in the first part of the race, Arod was a beaten horse 700 metres from home.
