Tommy Berry fit to fulfill Derby day rides

Wednesday 28 October 2015, 5:10pm

Intensive physiotherapy has ensured Tommy Berry's fitness to ride at the Derby day program at Flemington where he has three Group One mounts on Saturday.

The top Sydney jockey injured his neck and left shoulder in a race fall at Randwick on Saturday and was stood down from his remaining rides at the program.

The problem had improved enough for Berry to ride at Canterbury on Wednesday and he planned to continue undergoing treatment throughout the week to ensure he was in top condition for Flemington.

"It's still quite sore but I don't feel it much when I'm riding, I only feel it a bit on pulling up," he said.

"I'm looking forward to Saturday, I've got a nice book of rides."

Berry's mounts include Ecuador for Gai Waterhouse in the Mackinnon Stakes and the Jason Coyle-trained Slightly Sweet in the Myer Classic for fillies and mares.

He rides outsider Iron Boss for Mark Kavanagh in the Victoria Derby.
