Middle barrier for Melb Cup fav Fame Game

Saturday 31 October 2015, 7:39pm

Melbourne Cup favourite Fame Game has drawn a middle gate for the $6.2 million race at Flemington.

Rated the unlucky runner in the Caulfield Cup, the Japanese stayer will start from barrier 12 on Tuesday.

In contrast, fellow Japan representative Hokko Brave is among the widest drawn in gate 20.

Second favourite Trip To Paris has gate 14 with his Ed Dunlop-trained stablemate Red Cadeaux, lining up for his fifth start in Australia's greatest race, has drawn barrier eight.

Outsider Prince Of Penzance has drawn the rails for trainer Darren Weir and jockey Michelle Payne.

Topweight Snow Sky will jump from 16, one inside the Godolphin runner Hartnell.

Last year's third placegetter Who Shot Thebarman drew closest to the inside of trainer Chris Waller's three runners in gate six.

Waller will also start Preferment, drawn in gate 11 and Sydney Cup winner Grand Marshal, the outsider of his trio, in barrier 15.

Excess Knowledge, the last horse into the field, has drawn the widest gate of the 24 acceptors.

Cox Plate runner-up Criterion will start from barrier four and his Lindsay Park stablemate Almoonqith has the 10 alley.

Kingfisher has drawn the best of Aidan O'Brien's two runners in gate nine with Bondi Beach in 18.
