MICHELLE PAYNE - THE FACTS

- First woman jockey to win the Melbourne Cup on the Darren Weir-trained Prince of Penzance.

- Now 30 but the youngest of 10 children, seven who became jockeys.

- Plans to become a trainer as well as a jockey next year after new rules allow the dual roles.

- Got her first Group One win with the late legendary trainer Bart Cummings on Allez Wonder in the 2009 Toorak Handicap.

- Also rode Allez Wonder in the 2009 Melbourne Cup for Cummings.

- formed a lethal partnership with diminutive racehorse Yosei trained by Stuart Webb, winning the ATC Sires' Produce Stakes, the Thousand Guineas and the Tattersall's Tiara.

- Got a congratulations phone call from Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull

- And this tweet from former PM Julia Gillard: "Michelle Payne rides into history & becomes the 1st woman jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. Great going Michelle!-JG?"
