Frankie Dettori's equal best performance in a Melbourne Cup has ended with a hefty fine and a month on the sidelines for the flamboyant Italian jockey.
Dettori finished second on Irish horse Max Dynamite in Tuesday's Cup won by 100-1 shot Prince Of Penzance to go with his second on Central Park in 1999.
Despite being seemingly bewildered by the stewards' questions over his actions at the 350m of the Cup, he copped a $20,000 penalty and his one-month ban equalled the one he received in 2004 for causing interference on Mamool.
Dettori said he was clear of Chad Schofield's mount Gust Of Wind when he moved out to take a run.
"I saw I was clear and I moved out," Dettori said.
The five other jockeys who copped the brunt of the concertina effect disagreed.
"Do I get a prize for staying on," Jim Cassidy, the rider of Grand Marshal, said.
Hugh Bowman said Preferment had been hit with a fair bit of force while Schofield had a message for those who had not seen the stewards' footage and lambasted him on Twitter.
"Seems plenty thought it was me who caused that interference in the cup but would like to set the record straight," he tweeted, attaching the following stewards report: "Suspension: 03-11-2015 Flemington 7 - 8 Max Dynamite - Frankie Dettori -1 MONTH + $20,000 fine".
English jockey Jamie Spencer was also outed for 14 meetings for his ride on fifth-placed Big Orange for shifting out on Our Ivanhowe 250m from the finish.
