With a bevy of bluebloods and a last start stakes-winner engaged in the Group III VRC Emirates Airline Plate for two year-old fillies at Flemington on Cup Day, modest Nicconi filly Concealer got under the guard of punters to score a powerful win.
The Tony McEvoy trained filly paraded in great shape and when the gates flew back proved more than a match for her more expensive and more fancied rivals.
She settled off the pace for Zac Purton and stormed to the line to beat the Gai Waterhouse trained Prompt Response with debut stakes-winner Missrock a good late finishing third in the 1000 metre scamper.
“She jumped well, found a nice spot and attacked the line,” said Zac Purton.
“She’s a big filly with a lovely action, so they have plenty to work with.”
A $35,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Widden Stud draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Concealer is the best of three winners from Tale of the Cat (USA) mare Beauty Kit, a half-sister to the dam of Group II WATC Karrakatta Plate winner Motion Pictures.
“She’s a big long filly with a huge stride,” said Tony McEvoy.
“I told Zac she’ll take two strides to their one!”
Concealer is the sixth stakes-winner for our great value sire Nicconi, who had four winners on Cup Day!
