High hopes for Ocean Park half-brother

Wednesday 23 January 2013, 3:18pm

A half brother to Cox Plate winner Ocean Park is expected to be among the highlights at next week's Karaka Yearling Premier Sale.

Ocean Park was keenly sought as a yearling three years ago and sold for $150,000 at the second-tier Select Sale at Karaka, and Trelawny Stud's managing director Brent Taylor said his half-brother was an outstanding colt.

"He's not too dissimilar to Ocean Park himself. He's probably got a little bit more strength than (Ocean Park did) at the same stage," Taylor told NZ Newswire.

"The mare throws a decent sort of an individual and obviously can throw some ability into her colts so we can only hope that he's as nice a horse as we think he is in the buyers' eyes."

Taylor was hopeful the market at Karaka would be a strong one, particularly after the average and median prices rose at the Magic Millions sale in Queensland earlier this month.

Sir Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud has more than 50 yearlings catalogued in its attempt to be the leading vendor for the 32nd consecutive year.

The two-day sale starts on Monday.
