Boss booked for Azkadellia in Doncaster

Thursday 17 March 2016, 7:04am

Six-time Doncaster Mile-winning jockey Glen Boss will ride the lightly weighted Azkadellia in the $3 million race at Randwick.

Trainer Ciaron Maher is planning to start Azkadellia in the Group One Doncaster (1600m) on April 2 at her next start after the mare finished second to Peeping in the Coolmore Classic at Rosehill on Saturday.

Azkadellia is equal 39th in the Doncaster ballot with a maximum field of 20 plus emergencies, but Maher is hoping she gets into the race in which she has just 50kg.

"Glen rang me. He was really keen to ride her," Maher said.

"I think her preparation has gone really smoothly. She took great improvement out of her first two runs (in Melbourne).

"She was pretty good on the weekend but I think she'll still take a little bit of improvement from that.

"I think out to the mile is ideal and if there is a wet track, I think that's probably even better as well."

Azkadellia is at $11 for the Doncaster with Press Statement the $6 favourite ahead of First Seal ($8) and Winx ($8).
