A Cranbourne track gallop will determine if impressive debut winner Tuscan Red heads to Sandown.
Tuscan Red has been nominated for a 1300m Three-Year-Old Handicap on Saturday but trainer Enver Jusufovic has left options open, nominating the gelding for races at Bendigo on Thursday and Geelong on Friday.
"I like the horse and I would probably be a touch hesitant about going to town with him at this stage," Jusufovic said.
"I'd like to get another win from him and get his fitness levels up a bit more but I thought I'd throw a nomination in and have a look."
Tuscan Red showed his potential with his Geelong debut win on May 17.
After being supported from $10 to $4.60, Tuscan Red disposed of a maiden field in easy fashion.
Jusufovic paid $100,000 for Tuscan Red at the Magic Millions June sale two years ago.
He reasoned it would be easier to get his owners into a son of Medaglio D'Oro than an athletic Foreplay youngster which had also captured his attention.
"I was fortunate. I was up at the Gold Coast two years ago and I looked at quite a few horses," Jusufovic said.
"I paid $100,000 for this guy and fortunately I was able to sell him within 24 hours of buying him.
"He's been a slow maturer but has always shown a bit of ability."
Jusufovic has returned to the same sale this week on looking for another suitable candidate and spotted the weanling half-sister to Tuscan Red, by The Factor.
"She's a nice filly but I think she's going to make too much," he said.
Jusufovic said Tuscan Red would only have a light winter before being put away with a view to a late spring and summer campaign.
