Melbourne Cup option for Dylan Mouth

Wednesday 1 June 2016, 6:55am

Trainer Marco Botti has the Melbourne Cup in his sights for new stable acquisition Dylan Mouth.

Formerly trained in Italy by Botti's cousin Stefano Botti, Dylan Mouth won Sunday's Group Two Gran Premio di Milano by 5-1/2 lengths at his first start for the Newmarket handler.

Botti has several international targets for Dylan Mouth starting with the Group One Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on July 3.

"There are a lot of options as he travels so well, and we can look to try to get some good prize money with him," Botti told the Racing Post.

"One race the owner would really like to have a runner in is the Melbourne Cup, so that could be a longer-term target.

"There's also Canada and he'll run somewhere over here as well.

"It's just that when you have a horse that can travel well it opens up a lot more options."

Botti's best Melbourne Cup result is Jakkalberry's third behind Green Moon and Fiorente in 2012.

His other Australian runners include Dandino, second to Fawkner in the 2013 Caulfield Cup.
