Mount Omei to run in Queensland Oaks

Wednesday 1 June 2016, 8:44am

Mount Omei is a definite starter in the Queensland Oaks, joining stablemate Sebring Sally as Chris Waller attempts back-to-back wins in the race.

Waller won the Classic last year with Winx who went on to win five more Group One races this season.

The Oaks meeting at Eagle Farm on Saturday is the first since the track was closed for a rebuild in August 2014.

Waller said Encosta Line, a leading contender for the Queensland Derby on Saturday week, would not run this weekend.

Encosta Line had been entered for races at Rosehill and Eagle Farm after an irregular blood count forced his withdrawal from the Grand Prix Stakes won by stablemate Mackintosh.

"Encosta Line will not run this weekend as I am satisfied he is fit enough to go straight to the Queensland Derby," Waller said in a statement.

"He has not missed any work which included a solid gallop at Rosehill on Monday morning and is scheduled to gallop again on Friday morning.

"We have also made the decision that Mackintosh will definitely run in the Queensland Derby.

"We are very happy with the way that he has come through his winning run in the Grand Prix over the 2200m-distance and having seen him come through the race and having a good look at his profile, we have no doubt that he will run the 2400m.

"Hugh Bowman will ride Encosta Line in the Queensland Derby, Blake Shinn will ride Mackintosh, Joao Moreira will ride Rodrico and our other Derby runner is likely to be Multifacets.

Waller said he had not yet booked a jockey for Multifacets but confirmed Joao Moreira would ride Counterattack in the Stradbroke Handicap and James McDonald would stick with Delectation.
