Spring build-up begins for Get The Picture

If the racing season had worked out as it should have for Get The Picture, the promising stayer would be in the spelling paddock by now.

Instead, Get The Picture will be lining up in a race for three-year-olds at Sandown on Saturday.

Get The Picture showed immense potential in the spring when he made it as far as the Victoria Derby.

But it came at a cost and the colt missed the autumn.

With an extended break behind Get The Picture, trainer Stuart Webb has mapped out an abbreviated winter that kicks off in the Ladbrokes Cash In Handicap.

"It's a good off-season three-year-old race to be running in against some handy ones like Odyssey Moon and Jalan Jalan, but at the same time he's not a bad horse either," Webb said.

A Ballarat maiden winner at his third start, Get The Picture finished second in the Bill Stutt Stakes at Moonee Valley.

He then ran fourth over 2000m at Caulfield but finished down the track behind Tarzino in the Victoria Derby to finish his spring campaign.

Webb said Get The Picture needed time to get over a minor issue and he was planning a two-to-three run campaign before another break.

"He'll probably go to the water walker for a month and then try for the later part of the spring," Webb said.

"I was hoping to win a Group race before he turned four to get his rating up but that's not going to happen now.

"His rating is low 70s so that's not going to get you into the good races in the spring.

"What we'll have to do is place him correctly and try and work his way up through his rating grades.

"I think he's well and truly above average but they've got to take that next step when they come out of the comfort of their three-year-old year."
