A fast-finishing Melbourne debut was just what Adam Durrant wanted to see from Perth galloper Mr Moet.
Now the Group One winner needs to go on with the job over a more suitable distance at Caulfield on Saturday.
Mr Moet lines up in Saturday's Group Two Peter Young Stakes (1800m) having surprised many when he powered home from last for third in the C F Orr Stakes two weeks ago.
But not Durrant.
The Perth trainer expected the Railway Stakes winner to be doing his best work late over the 1400-metre journey and then improve again for the first of his two main autumn missions.
"He's bounced back quickly after that run and I've been able to pump the work into him to have him pretty well cherry ripe," Durrant said.
A victory to Mr Moet in the traditional lead-up to the Australian Cup could set up a big day for West Australian racing.
Unbeaten Perth sprinter Barakey puts his record on the line as favourite in the Group One Oakleigh Plate.
Mr Moet starred in the Perth summer carnival with wins in the Railway Stakes and Cox Stakes.
But if there's one concern for Durrant, it's the possibility of Saturday's race being slowly run in front.
"It could be run more like a 1400 or a soft 1600-metre race," Durrant said.
"But we won't be letting them get away with murder. We'll be making a move and putting him into the race this time."
Mawingo finished ahead of Mr Moet in the Orr Stakes, won by All Too Hard, and holds favouritism just ahead of the interstater.
