Jake Noonan is only days away from becoming a senior jockey and the next chapter of his career is set to be written overseas.
Noonan is preparing for a stint riding in Ireland and England.
He believes it's an opportune time after achieving one of his goals by outriding his claim last Saturday with a stakes win in Adelaide.
Noonan said he would eventually link with trainer Andrew Balding in England when he leaves in April.
"The plan is to head over to Europe and kick off probably in Ireland and then head over to England," Noonan said.
"There's no date set in stone at the moment. I'm probably looking at early April and might go for a three or six-month stint, just depending on how it's going over there and how I'm situated here."
Noonan has been to the UK before and ridden work to build contacts.
He said that had led to the opportunity to return.
With opportunities likely to be limited without the advantage of a claim in Melbourne, he feels it's the right time to give it a go.
"I've been offered an opportunity to go over and ride for Andrew Balding and certain stables in Newmarket," he said.
"I don't know if I'm going to come out of it as a Group One, international-travelling jockey, but it's going to be a good opportunity and I'm definitely going to better my skills.
"I'm really looking forward to the experience."
Noonan will come out of his apprenticeship on Tuesday.
