Kellyville Flyer upstaged stablemate Sons Of John on All Aged Stakes day and she will now be challenged to emulate the gelding and win the Hawkesbury Gold Cup.
Hawkesbury-based trainer Jason Attard said Kellyville Flyer will be given her chance at Hawkesbury after winning the Hong Kong Jockey Club Trophy (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
"Kellyville (Flyer) is a contender for the Cup," he said, hoping she can match Sons Of John's win in 2015.
Kellyville Flyer ($9.50) beat Duca Valentinois ($7) with Maurus ($17) 1-1-1/4 lengths away third.
"She's my favourite horse, she tries her best," Attard said.
"She might not be the fastest but she's the toughest and she doesn't give up."
Sons Of John finished runner-up to Top Of My List in the Japan Racing Association Plate.
"I thought about dropping John back to the mile and going to the Hawkesbury Cup but I don't think that's a sensible option," Attard said.
"We'll stay at 2000 (metres) and look to step up from there."
