Samovare poised to make Melbourne debut

Wednesday 7 June 2017, 5:46pm

Stakes-winning Perth filly Samovare is set for her eastern states debut at Flemington and her new co-trainer Ben Hayes is confident the three-year-old can make an immediate impression.

Samovare won two of her five starts in the west when trained by Dan Morton, including the Group Three WA Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) at Ascot in November at her most recent start.

The filly has been transferred to the Lindsay Park team of trainers David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.

Ben Hayes said the filly arrived at the stables at the same time as another former Perth horse Vega Magic.

Vega Magic won the Group One Goodwood in his first start for the stable last month.

Samovare resumes in Saturday's Trevor Clarke Handicap (1400m) for fillies and has topweight of 60kg with Damien Oliver to ride.

The filly has had early support to be the $3.60 favourite.

"She has been trialling really well and we're really happy with her," Ben Hayes said.

"She won a trial at Tatura and she was very impressive.

"Then she had a jump-out at Flemington and also trialled really well just in behind the leaders.

"We really like her. We're quite confident that she will run well first-up."
