Peter Moody's Golden Slipper dream took a hit when Il Cavallo was named as an emergency for Saturday's race.
"If there's a couple of scratchings and he gets a run, he's ready to run a race," Moody said.
"He's a very exciting colt and they won't be running a Slipper for him next year. So it was worth a throw at the stumps."
Should Il Cavallo miss a start in the $3.5 million race, Moody will run him in the Group Three Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick on Saturday week.
Il Cavallo's connections paid a $150,000 late entry fee for the Slipper after the colt made a late claim for inclusion in the field, jogging up in record time on debut at Sandown a week ago.
The win put him in contention for a start but left him short on prizemoney. It also had Moody regretting he hadn't taken a different course with the colt.
"I had him entered for the last two Slipper lead-ups in Sydney but I opted for the soft option at Sandown," he said.
"I'm kicking myself a little for not taking him up there and running him either last Saturday or the previous one."
