Rebecca Goldsbury took the first step to being the next New Zealand apprentice to be a star in Queensland racing with a win at her first ride at a metropolitan meeting on Wednesday.

Goldsbury gave her master Ben Currie the first leg of a winning double when she combined with Now You See ($2.30) for a runaway win at Ipswich.

She has been in a great form at the provincial tracks and it was her 15th winner since linking with Currie in July and her first metropolitan-level victory.

Goldsbury, 24, from Palmerston North, is following in the footsteps of Bridget Grylls, Rosie Myers, Maja Vance, Rachel Mason and Josh Oliver who have been top apprentices in Brisbane after coming from New Zealand.

She got her chance when Oliver recommended her to Currie.

"Josh finished his apprenticeship and he mentioned my name to the stable when they were looking for an apprentice," she said.

"I am really enjoying myself and I am looking forward to riding more in the city."

Currie has big wraps on Goldsbury who he believes can be in high demand in city racing.

"Rebecca handles Now You See perfectly. That is three rides on her for three wins," he said.

Currie also won with Break Time ($3.50) who was ridden by his new stable jockey Mark Pegus who is also having a good run.

Pegus joined with Currie earlier this month and has already ridden seven winners.

Trainer Toby Edmonds had a light day by his standards but had a winner with his only runner when The Amateur ($1.80) led all the way.

It was Edmonds seventh winner in seven days and he hopes the run continues.

"There have been a few winners and we even won one at Ballarat last Sunday with Eptimum," Edmonds said.

"But I would love to make it eight on Friday night at Moonee Valley."

Edmonds has star filly Houtzen Scarborough Stakes.
