Qewy among field of seven for Bendigo Cup

Monday 30 October 2017, 12:11pm

Two horses still in Melbourne Cup contention feature among a small field for the $300,000 Bendigo Cup.

Wednesday's Group Three race over 2400m has attracted seven acceptors including the Charlie Appleby-trained international visitor Qewy who is set to make his first appearance of this year's spring carnival.

Godolphin's Qewy and the Lloyd Williams-owned Group One winner Foundry are among the 36 second acceptors for Tuesday week's Melbourne Cup with Qewy 22nd in the ballot order and Foundry 29th.

Appleby won last year's Bendigo Cup with Francis Of Assisi while Qewy won the 2016 Geelong Cup and Sandown Cup and was fourth in the Melbourne Cup.

Kerrin McEvoy rides Qewy who is on the second line of early betting at $2.80 behind the Darren Weir-trained Kiwia at $2.40.

Kiwia won the Group Two Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield last start.
