Two pleasing jumpouts from well-related Samarmeteors has trainer Mick Price expecting a competitive debut showing from the two-year-old at Caulfield on Saturday.
Samarmeteors is a half-sister to last year's Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready and steps out for the first time in the Visvanathan Memorial Plate (1000m).
Price also trains Samaready and while he said Samarmeteors isn't as robust as her half-sister, he believes she can run a good race on debut.
"She has trialled well. She's had a couple of trials and won them both, not by big margins," Price said.
"She's a little sprinting filly. It's not a bad race but I think she'll be competitive at her first start."
Three-year-old Samaready has won four of her six starts and also placed in last year's Golden Slipper but hasn't raced since August.
She was ruled out of the spring after one run due to illness and then her autumn campaign had to be aborted when she suffered a muscle tear in her hindquarter.
Price expects Samaready to be back for sprint races as a four-year-old mare, kicking off early next season.
If Samarmeteors was able to win on debut Price said he would be keen to chase black type with the filly, possibly in Adelaide.
