Hickmott applies to be caretaker trainer

Wednesday 20 December 2017, 7:04pm

Robert Hickmott has emerged as the likely caretaker trainer of John Sadler's team at Caulfield as the latter serves a six-week suspension.

Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey said on Wednesday there were still some things to be ironed out and the application had not yet been formally approved.

The trainer of two Melbourne Cup winners, Green Moon and Almandin for Lloyd Williams, Hickmott split with the stable last month.

Sadler, who preceded Hickmott at Williams' Macedon Lodge, was outed on Monday for six weeks for misconduct towards stewards who scratched one of his horses believing it may have received a race day treatment against the rules.
