Careless riding ban for Brenton Avdulla

Wednesday 20 December 2017, 7:27pm

Leading Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla has had his momentum halted by a five-meeting careless riding suspension.

Avdulla pleaded guilty to causing interference on Emperor's Way at the 400-metre mark of the Book Summer Hospitality Today Handicap (1900m) at Canterbury on Wednesday when he forced his way between runners.

The suspension starts on December 27 and Avdulla can resume riding on January 4.

Avdulla has ridden 32 metropolitan winners so far this season and has a two-win lead over Hugh Bowman who is riding in Japan, and Kerrin McEvoy who is sidelined with a hand injury.
