Siege Of Quebec ambles to Rosehill victory

Saturday 27 January 2018, 2:02pm

Expensive colt Siege Of Quebec has wound up late to win at Rosehill to the relief of punters who may just have to get used to his racing style.

The raging $1.50 favourite in Saturday's Wilkes Quality (1100m) seemingly took an age to reach Kennedy ($6) but both his co-trainer Adrian Bott and jockey Brenton Avdulla said his casual attitude was mostly to blame.

He also lost two racing plates but that did not seem to bother him.

"He always gives you heartache in his races. He is very laid back," Bott said.

Avdulla said Siege Of Quebec's long neck margin was still decisive.

"He never wins by big margins," he said.

"He pulled two plates off as well but he is very casual."

Bott said he and training partner Gai Waterhouse were planning a campaign aimed at the Eskimo Prince, Hobartville Stakes and Group One Randwick Guineas on March 10.

"After the Guineas we might then look at weight-for-age," he said.

By Fastnet Rock out of Rose Of Cimarron, Siege Of Quebec was a $1.2 million yearling and races in the navy blue of Coolmore, a co-owner of the colt who has won three of his four starts.
