Snogging gets back on board at Caulfield

Saturday 28 April 2018, 12:46pm

Trainer Trent Busuttin will revisit plans to secure black-type with Snogging after the filly's impressive victory at Caulfield.

Busuttin, who trains in partnership with Natalie Young, said black-type on the pedigree page with Snogging was now a priority after her win in Saturday's No Fuss Events Handicap.

Ridden by Damien Oliver, Snogging was sent off the $4 favourite before beating I'm Buxom ($9) by two lengths with Princess Mia ($8.50) three-quarters-of-a-length away third.

After a first-up win at Sandown last month, Snogging finished a disappointing ninth in the Listed Laelia Stakes at Morphettville on April 7.

"She won well fresh up but had a hard run and second up she raced flat so we thought we'd come back and start again," Busuttin said.

"It's good to get a Saturday win on her record and now we've got to try and find some black-type.

"She's bred to be a 1000 or 1200-metre horse but right from the get-go she was never going to be that sharp.

"I would say a mile, on pedigree, will see her out but she relaxes well."

Busuttin had pinpointed the Listed Adelaide Guineas as a potential next outing but was interested to learn the Darren Weir-trained Peaceful State may be heading to that race.

"There's the Queensland Guineas we might think about, but we'll just try and pick the best path for her to get some black type," he said.
