Glenall strikes winning form in Gold Rush

Saturday 28 April 2018, 3:25pm

Glenall has made the most of a drop in class and a return to Sydney by rediscovering winning form in the Listed Hawkesbury Gold Rush.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes said being back in familiar surroundings played a key role in Glenall's first black-type triumph after a Melbourne campaign.

"It's just a change of environment back to Sydney, the horse has always had ability, he's always shown that," he aid.

"He's a Redoute's Choice so we've always tried to chase the black-type and the Group races with him. We're happy with a low grade stakes race."

Hawkes also credited Brenton Avdulla for an astute ride after Glenall ($4.80) beat Spending To Win ($6) by three quarters of a length.

Kuro ($26) was two lengths back in third.

"Brenton took the bull by the horns and jumped him out and put him in a nice position. He helped him balance and really get the best out of him," Hawkes said.
