Barriers frustrate trainer Stuart Kendrick

Thursday 3 May 2018, 12:16pm

Frustrated trainer Stuart Kendrick believes Fish 'N' Snitz is up to winning in stakes company if she ever draws a good barrier.

Fish 'N' Snitz has drawn barrier 11 of 13 in the Group Three Ken Russell Memorial 2YO (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Despite having better form than most of the field, Fish 'N' Snitz will again be big odds because of the barrier draw, her fifth wide gate in nine starts.

"It is getting to the stage I just can't believe the barriers she draws. I scratched her from two races last weekend because she drew the outside in both. Now she draws wide again - what do you do?"

Kendrick's frustration comes from the fact Fish 'N' Snitz can't be ridden the way he would like.

"She has been minor placed behind some of the best two-year-olds in the state. In each case we have had to ride her out of her comfort zone," Kendrick said.

"I would love to be able to get a good barrier so she doesn't have to be bustled and can sit just off the pace. The day that happens watch out."

Kendrick has put blinkers on Coral Bay who contests the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).

Coral Bay ran sixth in a three-year-old race at Caloundra last start but ran one of the fastest final 600m of the day.

"He gave them a huge start and at one stage was three lengths behind the second-last horse," Kendrick said.

"Hopefully the blinkers will sharpen him up to be a bit closer."
