NZ training record for Baker-Forsman duo

Thursday 17 May 2018, 4:07pm

Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman have bettered their own New Zealand training record with Electrode's win at Tauherenikau.

Thursday's victory brought up the pair's 115th win for the season, one more than the record they set last term.

The previous best mark was the now Sydney-based John Sargent's 111 in 2012/13.

Baker and Forsman have also won 16 Group or Listed races in New Zealand this season on their way to stake earnings of more than $3.9 million.

"Obviously, it has been very satisfying and we have very good staff, owners and jockeys," Forsman told NZ Racing Desk.

"Murray and myself are only part of it. We have some very capable people behind us and it's thanks to them.

"It's been a solid season and we've managed to keep the momentum going right the way through."

Forsman said the emergence of three-year-old Vin De Dance had been one of their season's highlights.

"Winning a Derby is special and we competed well in Melbourne. We've won four stakes races in Australia as well as 16 here so we've been kicking goals on both sides of the Tasman."

The stable's reigning New Zealand Horse of the Year Bonneval win the Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and Group One Underwood Stakes during the Melbourne spring.

Baker and Forsman will have a further chance to add to their Australian record with the in-form Karisto who is bound for the Queensland winter carnival.

"He's booked to fly out on Friday week and, all going well, he'll have his first start two weeks later," Forsman said.
